Difference between OAMRS and CMRITO and CAMRT
OAMRS (Ontario Association of Medical Radiation Sciences)
Health care is governed by the Ontario Provincial Government at Queens’ Park. Health care is a provincial issue.
The OAMRS is the recognized voice of the profession in Ontario, ensuring that MRTs and Sonographers continue to grow in importance within the Ontario Health care system. In addition, the OAMRS provides education, benefits and face-to-face workshops and events at a local level throughout the province.
CMRITO (College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario )
The CMRITO is the regulatory body for both Medical Radiation Technologists (MRTs) and Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (DMS) in Ontario. Like 25 other health professions in Ontario, medical radiation technology is self-regulated. Self-regulation means that the profession governs itself through a college. Only individuals registered with the College are legally authorized to practice the profession in Ontario.
CMRITO represents and protects the public and patients of Ontario
The CMRITO protects the public through its Code of Ethics and by setting standards of practice including:
- Sets entry to practice requirements for medical radiation technologists and diagnostic medical sonographers
- Ensures MRTs and DMSs maintain ongoing professional competency
- Investigates concerns/complaints from the public. Judges/enforces disciplinary action if needed
CAMRT (Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologist)
The CAMRT is the national professional association for MRTs. The CAMRT partners with ten provincial associations who share a common membership. The CAMRT is an authoritative voice on the critical issues that affect its members across the country.
CAMRT is the recognized national certifying body for MRTs
As the national certifying body, CAMRT develops and administers national certification exams for the four disciplines among its membership. In addition, the CAMRT provides education and benefits to all provinces across the country.
OAMRS partners with CAMRT to ensure Ontario MRT’s are represented in Ontario and across Canada.
OAMRS collaborates with CMRITO on common issues to ensure that MRTs/Sonographers and the public of Ontario are best served.
OAMRS works closely with both ARDMS and Sonography Canada to ensure professional standards are maintained in the currently unregulated profession.
